"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of a good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things" ~Phil 4:8~
Ever noticed how you feel after time in conversation with someone? Some close friends leave you with a smile, a laugh, a warm fuzzy-yellow feeling, like you've just been hugged by the sun. Other times, you may leave the company of a friend or acquaintance feeling uneasy, heavy, or burdened. It's likely that the way you feel is a direct result of what your conversation has been.
When we dig up the past, brew over past hurts, & dissect the thing that God has already healed and forgiven in our lives, it brings all those old feelings of bondage back again. If we bring them up, it should only be as a brief testimony of what God has healed us from...not in detail. Otherwise, if we linger too long there, the enemy will try to enslave us once more.
Make a purposeful attempt to engage in new, exciting conversations. The conversations I enjoy most are with my best friend. She calls them our "meaningless chit-chat". We discuss sales on meat, share recipes, vent our frustrations at the check-out line. But we also pray for each other's deepest requests. We share praise reports of what we just saw God do in someones life, often our own. We have both been through our share of storms--we praise God for His mighty deliverance! But now, we keep moving forward, engaged & enjoying daily life!
If any of you have been held by satan's tightest strings to a past God desperately wants to free you from, cut the strings! Make the first move by changing your conversation habits. It will be mind over matter in the beginning, but with time, it will become second nature. Let your mind meditate on all the lovely, true goodness that the Lord wants to open your eyes to every morning.
